March of Dimes Mud Volleyball

The March of Dimes Ohio Valley Division will host a Mud Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at the Iroquois Riding Arena/Stables in IroquoisPark. Registration will begin at 9:00AM and the mud-slinging games will begin at 10:00AM. Co-ed teams will be made up of 6 to 10 players, who wallow all day in knee deep mud. 

The cost is $250 for a “Dirty Team,” $600 for a “Filthy Team” (each player will receive a t-shirt, goodie bag and complimentary food and drink ticket; the team will receive team signage by the courts and a free reserved picnic table), and $1,000 for a “Club Mud” team (which includes T-shirts for all players, a free reserved picnic table, team signage by courts with company logo (if applicable), VIP tent access, including free drinks, food, freebies, shade, exclusive private restrooms, and a VIP goodie bag for each player). All proceeds will help support the March of Dimes’ campaign to fight premature birth, infant death, and birth defects.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer “Living Ribbon of Hope”

 

The American Cancer Society will be hosting its second annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer “Living Ribbon of Hope” Sunday, August 29 at 3pm. Utilizing individuals who have a passion for breast cancer awareness, community members will form a human pink ribbon symbolizing breast cancer on Trinity High School’s Football Practice Field.

The “Living Ribbon of Hope” event is also a way for community members to learn more about the 13th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, taking place Sunday, October 24 at
WaterfrontPark. This noncompetitive, 5K walk raises awareness and funds to fight breast cancer and provides hope to all people caring the disease.

Fashion with a Passion Runway Show

 

Come enjoy a night of fashion, food, and fun to support Children of the RIF Therapy Center of Al Hoceima, Morocco. It's September 2nd, 7pm at Glassworks. There will be a vintage inspired runway show with a silent auction and after party to follow. All pieces in the show have been donated or made by local designers and boutiques. The silent auction will have items and services donated by local businesses, going to the highest bid. Finally, the after party will be catered with live entertainment and dancing! Human Trafficking Conference at U of L

 

Women 4 Women Student Chapter will be hosting a Human Trafficking Conference

The conference is on September 7, 2010 at the U of L Red Barn. It starts at 5pm and goes until 8pm, the doors open at 4:00. There will be three speakers, food, prizes and it’s free!   


Taste of Louisville

 

The Louisville Chapter of the Kentucky Restaurant Association (KRA) will host the 37th Annual Taste of Louisville on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, 6 - 9 p.m., at The Crowne Plaza located near the LouisvilleInternationalAirport.  Proceeds benefit Community Health Charities and the Kentucky Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.  Last year, the Kentucky Restaurant Association - Louisville Chapter was able to contribute $5,000 to local charities! We are proud to announce that the Taste of Louisville has generated over $577,000 in fundraising revenue since its inception in 1973!

Library Card Sign-Up Month

 

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, and the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library is celebrating by making sure all kids get a library card!  All new library card applicants will receive a small gift and have their name placed in our National Library Card Sign-up Month Registry. Any child checking out a children’s book during the month of September will receive a special treat at the circulation desk.  As a special incentive for students, the library will forgive all overdue fines on the accounts of students grades K-12 during the month of September.  For more information on any of these activities, please contact the circulation desk at (812) 944-8464.

YWC's Annual Fashion Show

The Younger Woman’s Club of Louisville invites you out for their annual fashion show, “Fall Into Fabulous”, October 7th at the Henry Clay starting at 7:30pm!  Proceeds benefit the charitable effort of YWC.  Check out the latest autumn and winter looks from boutiques such as Clodhoppers, Peacock, Dressing Room, Blink, Elizabeth's Timeless Attire, White House Black market, Dillards with jackets by Peter Nygard, Jewelry by Elva Fields, just to name a few.
